Courtyard Garden
09–30–18
This project explores the tensions between "type" and "time" through the design of a courtyard garden in Boston. Courtyards, while enclosed and autonomous, are shaped by their local environment, offering a rich landscape for experimentation. Focusing on New England's extreme climate, the design investigates how landscape materials can respond to changing light, weather, and seasons. The process included drawing, modeling, and analyzing built precedents to understand the relationship between circulation, volume, and surface. Iterative design were central to refine and express the courtyard's temporal and environmental qualities.
